Organized annually by the Federation, the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest multidisciplinary academic gathering in Canada, attracting delegates from every province and territory and from around the world.
The simplest way to describe Congress is as a meeting of meetings. It is unique in that it creates a critical mass of more than 8,000 scholars, researchers and graduate students, practitioners and policy makers who come together to share ideas, debate and enrich their research. They gather under the aegis of more than 70 associations representing a rich spectrum of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. From theatre, literature and education to history, sociology and political sciences, Congress represents a unique showcase of scholarly excellence, creativity, and leadership.
Congress is held each year in a different city and hosted by a local university. The partnership with the universities is crucial to the success of this world-class event. Take a moment to look back on some of the best moments from congress 2009.
